Who We Are - Blackberry Preserve

Our Vision

Our Mission

Our Vision

Since its establishment in 2018, Blackberry Preserve has converted  about 60 acres of depleted Pennsylvania farmland into thriving native wildflower meadows that buzz with pollinators, and draw field birds and raptors to nest and hunt.

Our Goals

Our Mission

Our Vision

In addition to wild meadows, Blackberry Preserve has focused on preserving Oak-Hickory forest remnants and many native trees. The healthy forest environment encourtages amphibians and mammals to call Blackberry Preserve home.

Our Mission

Our Mission

Our Mission

At the 100-Acre Blackberry Preserve, our mission is to step back so nature can step forward. By embracing the principles of rewilding, we are letting go of human management to allow this unique landscape to heal, self-regulate, and thrive, by getting out of nature's way.

Indigo Bunting

As the thickets grow wilder, the birds are returning. While we welcome many species, indigo buntings are truly special to us. These brilliant blue songbirds thrive precisely where the messy briars meet the open sky. Seeing a flash of their vibrant blue among the thorns reminds us that even the wildest briars are a sanctuary for something beautiful.

The Sound of Trees

I wonder about the trees.
Why do we wish to bear
Forever the noise of these
More than another noise
So close to our dwelling place?
We suffer them by the day
Till we lose all measure of pace,
And fixity in our joys,
And acquire a listening air.
They are that that talks of going
But never gets away;
And that talks no less for knowing,
As it grows wiser and older,
That now it means to stay.
My feet tug at the floor
And my head sways to my shoulder
Sometimes when I watch trees sway,
From the window or the door.
I shall set forth for somewhere,
I shall make the reckless choice
Some day when they are in voice
And tossing so as to scare
The white clouds over them on.
I shall have less to say,
But I shall be gone.
